Blog Activity Reflection

The ability to use blogs as instant publishing tools is incredible. If students are able to see and appreciate the fact their work can be instantly published for everyone to see they are more likely to find their activities more meaningful. Many if not most students are already familiar with some form of blogging via social media sites, so applying blogging to educational use makes perfect sense. It is a great opportunity for teachers to stress topic of writing for different audiences. Blogging for educational purposes will force students to really concentrate and formulate thoughts carefully.

Using blogs as a form of delivering information on a particular subject and having students respond to questions and feedback from the teacher is a very engaging way of learning and teaching. Journal writing using blogs can be a very useful way of teachers and students keeping track of the many entries they write throughout the year without having to handle so many papers or notebooks and not worrying about running out of paper and broken pencils. Combining this with a spell checker will help students instantly see what areas of spelling and grammar they need to improve on. Collaborative projects become easier through the use of blogs as students can work on their part of the project at their own pace and not be slowed or rushed by other students' work pace.

Kids definitely will be more engaged in any type of learning when it involves the use of a computer somehow. If students can apply many of the current learning methods to technology, we as teachers can have better focused and interested students than with the current practice of books and worksheets.
