Education 518 - Final Project Educational Video

My educational video consists of a lesson teaching students how to approach a test question dealing with identifying prime and composite numbers. It begins with showing how to use manipulatives, in this case counting tiles, to form all possible arrays of a number. Using the arrays, we are able to identify the factor pairs, and specifically the number of factors a number has in order to identify it as prime or composite. Using the same approach, but with paper and pencil as on a test, students draw the arrays and decide which numbers are prime and composite in order to solve the problem.

This activity can be use with students in 3rd to 6th grades with some modifications for difficulty. Students can watch the video to learn how to use the manipulatives to form arrays and identify the factors of a number and can also use it to apply these strategies to a testing situation.
